wouldn't blocking all that airflow, and turbulence created around the open ends of the IC, negate any advantage of "intimidation"? Forgive the psych and just plain logic coming out, but wouldn't the racer automatically assume he's not racing a Z32 NA? Realizing that the Z32 is a TT next to him, wouldn't he automatically understand that the turbos are side intercooled? So if were arguing that that FMIC is purely psychological effect, would the racer be encouraged to try that much HARDER? If were talking pure psychout here, if I saw what looked to be a stock Civic next to me, I would be less inclined to watch my gearing, and then find out later that the Civic had a jet engine inside of it. The mentality of every racer, just purely their attendance, would mean that they are prepared to win and do what it takes to win, therefore any showiness would be used as fuel for that goal.Intimidation would be way more useful on the street, being that street racing, especially high speed highways, are for the most part spontaneous, therefore no mental preparation required, so a huge FMIC would "scare" the other street racer especially if the FMICd owner instigated the race.
